There is a door at work, an automatic door. When I first started working there, I only used it one way: to leave the hallway, never to enter it. That was my assumption, my habit, my unexamined truth.
Then one day, I watched someone walk into the hallway through that same door. I stopped. I stood there. I watched people move through it in both directions; in, out, effortless.
To anyone rushing through their day, pausing to watch a door might look shallow. But I wasn’t looking at the door. I was looking at the idea behind it.
This is life, I told myself. We assume opportunities open only one way; forward, as we define it, outward as we expect it. But the door proved otherwise. Opportunities move both ways. Direction is perception. Forward is a matter of compass, not convention.
Sometimes what we think is an exit is also an entrance. Sometimes what we call “leaving” is actually “arriving.” And sometimes the only thing that needs to shift is the angle from which we see the door’s entrance.
#MOI About the door, at UCR, and what it reminded me of: Keep your compass loose, and remember that quiet opportunities are waiting; pause and notice which way life is happening.
I invite you to step into my books, meet the characters, and walk through their lives. I am the author, I don’t speak; I write. I write to inspire, to heal, and to share the experiences that shaped me.
And if you ever read my books, remember:
It’s a life, not a book. It’s a woman, not a character. It’s reality, not a story.
