My heart aches, too. I can’t remember a time without war, though there was that brief time when the USSR collapsed that Gorbachev seemed to be the one to end the antagonistic relationship between the USSR/Russia and the USA. That was a false hope, eh?!
I had a Lebanese friend who had been a child growing up in the civil war period. He told me that more than once he or one of his little friends ended up having injuries from playing with shells that hadn’t exploded. (School was sporadic. After he got out of school, he decided he wanted to learn math. He self-taught himself all the maths and went on to become an engineer!) His was a happy ending, but he had to leave his come country, friends, and family to achieve it.

Yes, we understand the pain more when we either live it or know someone that has.
I wish everyone a safe ending, I always thought that even soldiers ordered to demolish won’t be happy doing so!
