A little harsh I thought. I agreed with you for the first three lines but for many lonely people ‘Snap out of it’ is not an option. Whether from being socially inept or from having been rebuffed in the past there are many who are lonely because they feel they don”t fit or because they really don’t fit.I probably fit into both since I can’t talk to strangers. Since my wife died I don’t have her to act as a buffer so I rarely go out.

Apologies for the late reply, first my prayers for your wife.
Let me share with you my thoughts on the matter, snap out of it, there are different ways to fit in the society, it does not always mean the big social life, after my divorce, and throughout marriage even, if you read my book, you will read about the shrine I built myself to survive.
Depending on people, getting back to life, takes time, a will, and effort. Mainly one should start somewhere, and probably by choosing few friends, few activities, and ensure he/she make that first step. I know it is not easy, every word I say comes after experience, and if the sentence is short, the time lived was much longer.
Have the will, life is a gift and it is worth living.
We don’t always lose people to the same destiny, but losses are losses.
